Frequently Asked Questions
If I get a QTimaging scan, do I still need to get a mammogram?
YES. There is no current replacement for traditional mammograms. QTimaging offers a novel way of breast imaging and is only 1 of 5 machines in the United States. Mammography remains the gold standard in screening for breast cancer despite its limitations.
What are the benefits to a QTimaging scan?
With a quantitative transmission ultrasound, the ultrasound waves travel through the breast tissue and the receiver is on the opposite side of the breast reading the data. This means results in true 3D — which means a more complete picture of the breast. The images resemble those of an MRI, and show detail down to the ductal level. A QT Ultrasound does not use radiation for imaging as mammograms do. Another benefit is that it is better at seeing around breast implants. Traditional mammograms can only see what is squeezed between the imaging plates.
How fast will I get the results from my QTimaging scan?
Good question. Once you have done your scan, your results are sent to a qualified MD with special QT Imaging training to read, and you will usually have your results within 7-10 business days.
What does a QTimaging scan cost?
Normally a scan will cost $500, but we are pleased to provide you with a QTimaging scan at $399.
Do you take insurance?
At this time, we do not accept insurance as payment. If your doctor orders a QTimaging scan for you, your insurance may cover it after your scan, but we do not accept nor bill insurance.
How long will the appointment take?
Each breast takes 10-20 minutes to scan. The appointment should be 1-1.5 hours.
Where is parking?
There may be street parking available, public parking structures, and a small lot adjacent to the building. If you choose to park on the street, please be mindful of your parking meter time, and be sure to read all posted signs related to city parking. There are no lots locally that we are able to validate parking for.
Where is the machine located?
The Foundation is currently renting space at Rosenberg Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills. The address is 145 N. Robertson, Beverly Hills, CA 90211 and is just north of Wilshire Blvd.
Are there any height or weight restrictions for the machine?
The machine has a maximum weight capacity of 400lbs.
Can I take my normal medications prior to the scan?
Yes, there are no restrictions on medications with the QT ultrasound.
What should I wear to my appointment?
You will be asked to remove your clothing from the waist up, so we recommend separates, but whatever you are comfortable with is fine.
What can I expect during the QTscan?
You will need to lay still on your stomach with your head turned in one direction for each breast for the duration of the scan. Some patients may experience discomfort in their neck, lower back, or abdominal area — but it is usually minimal, and temporary.
